Do you crave some European specialities? Some different kinds of cheese, paprika chips, Haribo gummy bears and the like? We know the feeling and we know the solution!

PETONE

Petone is situated on the Wellington harbour next to Lower Hutt. It has a lovely main street, called Jackson Street, with loads of little cafes and interesting shops. Furthermore on this street is the Dutch Shop which sells all kinds of important cheeses and other specialities and spices (Aromat, Paprika Chips, Chocolates, Gummy bears etc.).

Just a couple of metres away is the South African shop that has a huge variety of products. They offer anything from spices, food products, wines and presents. It is definitely worthwhile to have a little snoop around.

A good place for some gourmet foods is of course the big shopping centre of Kirkaldie & Stains, located on Lambton Quay in Wellington. It offers small specialty shops which are worth a browse around. You will also find designer brands, perfumes you might not get somewhere else and seasonal decorations.
For all those who crave Mediterranean products the best places to go are the Mediterranean Warehouse in Newtown where you can not only shop till you drop but you can also take some yummy (some would say the best in Wellington) Italian pizza home or eat it there freshly prepared. Newly opened in Wellington on the Terrace is also the Bella Italia. You will find cheeses, meats and canned items, as well as pasta and the lot all prepared in the traditional Italian way. Another Bella Italia is located in Petone near the waterfront. Both have a nice little dining and cafe area where you can enjoy Italian coffee, lunches and desserts.

Now for those who grew up in the wider parts of Germany and Switzerland we have a special surprise. We know you might be used to different kinds of meat products and sausages and if you are looking for some Bratwurst and Blackforest ham, look no further. Check out the following website and place your order http://www.blackforestgourmet.co.nz/

There are also a couple of German Bakeries around, called “German Bakery” or “Brezelmania”. A Swiss bakery is based in Aro valley and all around town you will find the Bordeaux Bakeries and Pandoro Bakeries offering all delicious European style bread and sweets (i.e. Woodward Street & corner Wakefield with Allen street.)
